From Sparrow’s agave and tequila list, the Don Julio Anejo is a polished, slow-sipping tequila that has set the bar for premium agave spirits for decades ($23 by the pour, or $34.50 for a larger pour).
About Don Julio Anejo
Don Julio has been a benchmark for premium tequila since the 1980s. The story goes back to Don Julio Gonzalez, who founded his distillery, La Primavera, in the highlands of Jalisco as a young man in the 1940s. In 1985, to mark his 60th birthday, his sons created a tequila in his name. This Anejo is made from 100% Blue Weber agave grown in the rich volcanic soil of the Jaliscan highlands and aged for up to 18 months in American white oak, which gives it its smooth, rounded character.
Tasting Notes
That extended rest in white oak brings a warm, mellow side to the agave. Expect a soft, layered sip with the sweetness of cooked agave wrapped in gentle oak and a long, smooth finish. It is the kind of tequila meant to be savored slowly rather than rushed.
What to Pair It With
An Anejo this refined is lovely sipped neat or over a large cube. From the Sparrow dinner menu it shines next to the Lamb Quesa-Birria Tacos, the Guajillo Chicken, or the Tuna Tartare, and it makes a serious Margarita or Juanita-Rita. Enjoy it in our 21+ lounge at the quartzite bar, and remember our daily happy hour runs 3 to 5 PM.
