Weller Antique

From Sparrow’s bourbon list, Weller Antique is the famous, much sought after wheated bourbon, here in its 107 proof bottling ($17 by the pour, or $25.50 for a larger pour).

About Weller Antique

W.L. Weller comes from the Buffalo Trace distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, and it carries the name of William Larue Weller, an early champion of using wheat in place of rye in the bourbon mash bill. That choice is the heart of the Weller story. Where most bourbons use rye as the secondary grain for spice, Weller uses wheat for a softer, slightly sweeter palate. The Antique 107 is one of the most sought after expressions in the lineup, and while it is not fully cask strength, the higher 107 proof pushes the barrel notes and complexity forward. Wheated bourbon has a devoted following, and Weller is its flagship name here on the Eastside.

Tasting Notes

The wheated mash bill gives Weller Antique a rounded, gentle character even at 107 proof. Expect soft sweetness, vanilla, and a smooth body, with the higher proof adding depth and a fuller pull of barrel character. It is rich without being aggressive, the kind of pour that rewards slow sipping.

What to Pair It With

This is a prized sipping bourbon, best enjoyed neat or over a large cube in our 21+ lounge after dinner. It also makes a soft, memorable Old Fashioned. From the Sparrow dinner menu, pair it with the American Wagyu steaks or the Sparrow-Smoked Rack.
