Pimms

From Sparrow’s liqueur list, Pimm’s is the classic English gin-based liqueur and the heart of the beloved summer Pimm’s Cup ($13 by the pour, or $19.50 for a larger pour).

About Pimm’s

Pimm’s No. 1 is a British institution. It was created in London by James Pimm, who ran an oyster bar in the City near the Bank of England, sometime in the 1820s to 1840s. He served his gin-based tonic, flavored with a secret mixture of herbs and liqueurs, in a small tankard known as a No. 1 Cup, which is how the drink got its name. It proved so popular that large-scale production began in the mid 1800s. To this day the full recipe is famously known to only a handful of people. Pimm’s remains tied to English summer traditions, where the long, refreshing Pimm’s Cup is a fixture at garden parties and sporting events.

Tasting Notes

Pimm’s is built on gin and a secret blend of herbs, with a gentle citrus and spice character and a touch of caramel sweetness. On its own it is mellow and aromatic. It truly comes alive lengthened with lemonade or ginger ale and a garnish of fruit, cucumber, and mint.

What to Pair It With

Pimm’s is made for easy, refreshing sipping. Build it into a tall Pimm’s Cup with lemonade, fruit, and cucumber and enjoy it out on our four-season patio, or keep it simple over ice. It is a bright, social pour that suits the Sparrow patio and lounge. Browse the Sparrow dinner menu and pair it with light shareables like the Fresh Oysters or a salad.
