About Mischief John Jacob Rye
John Jacob is the handmade rye from Fremont Mischief, a small craft distillery that Mike and Patti Sherlock built along the Lake Washington Ship Canal in Seattle. They opened the distillery in 2009, right as craft distilling became legal in Washington State, so this is very much a hometown spirit for us here on the Eastside. The whiskey is named for Patti’s grandfather and built on his recipe, a mash of Pacific Northwest rye rounded out with malted barley. It is run through pot stills and then oak aged, a patient, hands-on approach that gives it real Seattle character.
Tasting Notes
This is an approachable, easygoing rye. Expect a light to medium amber color and the gentle vanilla and honey sweetness you find in a well-made Northwest rye, with the soft baking spice that the grain naturally brings. It is smooth and welcoming rather than sharp, which makes it an easy one to come back to.
What to Pair It With
Rye is a classic sipping and cocktail whiskey. Enjoy it neat, over a large cube, or stirred into an Old Fashioned or Manhattan in our 21+ lounge after dinner. It is also a natural next to the American Wagyu steaks or the Truffle Deviled Eggs from the Sparrow dinner menu. Our daily happy hour runs 3 to 5 PM with $3 off well drinks.
