Macchiato

From the Coffee and Tea menu at Sparrow, the Macchiato is the small, bold one, espresso marked with just a little steamed milk ($5). It is the no-proof pour for people who take their coffee seriously in Kirkland’s Juanita neighborhood.

About Macchiato

Macchiato means stained or marked, and that is exactly what it is: a shot of espresso with a small dollop of foamed milk to take the edge off without softening the character. At Sparrow the espresso comes from our in-house program with Armistice Coffee, the women-owned Eastside roaster that roasts in small batches, so the foundation is fresh and local. It is the kind of drink you order standing at the quartzite bar or sitting out on the four-season, dog-friendly patio when you want flavor without the volume.

Tasting Notes

Concentrated and rich, with the deep, roasty pull of a proper espresso lifted by a touch of creamy milk. It is short, intense, and balanced, espresso forward all the way.

What to Pair It With

A macchiato is a great finish to brunch or a midday lift. From the Sparrow menu, enjoy it after the Cinnamon French Toast, alongside a few doughnut holes, or simply on its own as a clean, zero-proof break.
