From Sparrow’s Scotch list, Hedonism is something a little different and very special, a smooth, vanilla-rich blended grain Scotch that we love pouring at our Kirkland bar ($34 by the pour, or $51 for a larger pour).
About Hedonism
Hedonism is made by Compass Box, the Scotch whisky house founded in 2000 by John Glaser, a former Johnnie Walker blender who approaches whisky a bit like a winemaker, layering different casks for complexity. Hedonism was Compass Box’s very first release and is widely credited as the first blended grain Scotch whisky on the market, made entirely from aged grain whiskies rather than malt. It is matured in first-fill American oak casks, which is where so much of its richness comes from. It is a thoughtful, characterful bottle that rewards taking your time with it.
Tasting Notes
Grain whisky aged this way is all about smoothness. Expect a soft, creamy texture with generous vanilla sweetness, a touch of coconut and toffee from the American oak, and a clean, gentle finish. There is no smoke or peat, just an elegant, easygoing pour that drinks beautifully on its own.
What to Pair It With
Hedonism is a sipping whisky, at its best neat or over one big cube so its creamy character can shine. Enjoy it as an after-dinner pour in our 21+ lounge, or alongside something rich from the Sparrow dinner menu such as the Truffle Deviled Eggs or the Sparrow-Smoked Rack. Our daily happy hour runs 3 to 5 PM if you want to make an evening of it.
