From Sparrow’s Scotch list, the Glenmorangie 10 yr is one of the easiest Highland single malts to fall for, a soft and creamy pour we are happy to have at our Kirkland bar ($16 by the pour, or $24 for a larger pour).
About Glenmorangie 10 yr
Glenmorangie is a Highland distillery in the town of Tain in the north of Scotland, and it is known for having some of the tallest stills in Scotland. Those long, slender stills let only the lightest, most delicate spirit rise and carry over, which is a big part of why this whisky drinks so smooth. The Original, as Glenmorangie calls its 10 year old, is matured in American white oak casks, including first and second fill barrels, before being bottled as a single malt. It is a great introduction to the Highland style for anyone exploring Scotch.
Tasting Notes
This is the gentle, approachable end of single malt Scotch. Expect a soft, mellow, creamy character with the kind of sweetness American oak gives, think light vanilla, citrus, and a clean, easygoing finish. There is no peat smoke here, just a bright and rounded malt that makes it an easy sipper.
What to Pair It With
This is a sipping whisky, lovely neat or over a single large cube. It is mellow enough to enjoy before a meal or after, and it plays nicely with richer plates from the Sparrow dinner menu like the American Wagyu steaks, the Sparrow-Smoked Rack, or the Truffle Deviled Eggs. Settle into our 21+ lounge with a pour after dinner, or catch our daily happy hour from 3 to 5 PM.
