From Sparrow’s white wine list, the Hedges Le Blanc is a distinctive white blend from one of Washington’s most storied estates on Red Mountain ($104 by the bottle). It is a special-occasion bottle we are proud to offer here in Kirkland.
About Hedges Le Blanc
Hedges Family Estate is a landmark of the Red Mountain AVA in Washington State. The estate was founded by Tom Hedges and his wife Anne-Marie, whose roots in the Champagne region of France inspired the French-style chateau that sits among the vines on the slopes of Red Mountain. Today the winery is very much a family affair, with daughter Sarah Goedhart as head winemaker and son Christophe Hedges as general manager. Hedges has become one of the leading voices for biodynamic farming in Washington: their vineyards are certified Biodynamic by Demeter, a commitment to the land that runs through everything they make. Le Blanc is their estate white blend, a French-inspired Red Mountain white that reflects both Anne-Marie’s heritage and the warm, distinctive Red Mountain site. White wine from Red Mountain is relatively rare, which makes a bottling like this all the more worth seeking out.
Tasting Notes
This is an aromatic, medium-bodied white blend in a French-inspired style. In general terms, expect a fragrant nose, ripe orchard and stone fruit, and a textured, rounded palate balanced by fresh acidity. It is a white with real presence and complexity, the kind of bottle that rewards slowing down and paying attention. We recommend serving it cool but not ice cold so the aromatics can open up.
What to Pair It With
A richer, aromatic white like this is a great match for fuller seafood and savory dishes. From the Sparrow dinner menu, pour it with the Wild Alaskan Halibut, the Scallops and Prosciutto, the Pacific Black Cod, or the Roasted Cauliflower Steak. It is also lovely with the Burrata Avocado.
