From Sparrow’s vodka list, Haku is a Japanese craft vodka built on 100% white rice, a clean and gentle pour that brings something a little different to the lineup ($11 by the pour, or $16.50 for a larger pour).
About Haku Vodka
Haku is made by the House of Suntory, the storied Japanese drinks house, and the name Haku means white, a nod to the brilliance of Japanese white rice and the pearlescent washi paper on the label. It is distilled from 100% Japanese white rice, the same grain at the heart of so much Japanese craft. The rice is fermented with rice koji into a mash, distilled into a rice spirit, and then filtered through bamboo charcoal, a traditional Japanese technique long used to soften and sweeten water. That filtering is what gives Haku its signature smoothness, and it reflects a long Japanese tradition of using charcoal to purify and gently sweeten water.
Tasting Notes
Haku is soft, round, and subtly sweet, with the gentle character that white rice lends. It drinks clean and easy, without the sharp bite some vodkas carry, which makes it a friendly sipper as well as a graceful mixer.
What to Pair It With
Vodka this bright and clean loves fresh, delicate flavors. From the Sparrow dinner menu, try it alongside our Fresh Oysters, the Tuna Tartare, or a crisp salad, or enjoy it in a clean martini or a light spritz. It is a natural fit for the 21+ lounge or a seat out on our four-season patio, and our daily happy hour from 3 to 5 PM takes $3 off well drinks.
