About Gran Marnier
Grand Marnier is a French liqueur that blends Cognac with the distilled essence of bitter orange and sugar. The best known expression, Cordon Rouge, was created in 1880 by Louis-Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle, whose family had been distilling in France since the early 1800s. What set it apart was the marriage of true Cognac with bitter orange, a richer and more elegant base than the neutral spirit behind most orange liqueurs. The name is said to have come from the famous hotelier Cesar Ritz, and by the early 20th century the bottle was poured in grand hotels across the world. It remains one of the most recognized liqueurs anywhere, and a fitting after-dinner pour here in Kirkland.
Tasting Notes
Grand Marnier leads with bright, candied bitter orange, layered over the warm, oaky depth of Cognac. It is silky and full bodied, with notes of vanilla, toffee, and a long, gently spiced finish. The Cognac base gives it a roundness that everyday triple secs simply do not have.
What to Pair It With
This is a wonderful sipping liqueur, lovely neat or over a large cube as a digestif in our 21+ lounge. It is also the soul of a Sidecar or a Cadillac Margarita. For a sweet finish, let it stand alongside dessert after a meal from the Sparrow dinner menu, or enjoy a pour during our daily happy hour from 3 to 5 PM.
