Clase Azul Reposado

From Sparrow’s agave list, Clase Azul Reposado is the iconic oak-rested tequila from one of Mexico’s most celebrated artisan houses ($45 by the pour, or $67.50 for a larger pour).

About Clase Azul Reposado

Clase Azul has spent nearly three decades building a reputation as one of the most respected artisan tequila producers, instantly recognizable for its hand-painted ceramic decanters crafted by artisans in Mexico. The tequila is made from 100% Tequilana Weber Blue agave grown in the Los Altos (Highlands) region of Jalisco around Jesus Maria, where the agave is slow cooked before fermentation and distillation. The reposado is rested in oak, which is what separates it from the brand’s crystal clear plata, giving it warmth and barrel character while keeping the agave at its heart. Reposado means rested, a reference to the time the tequila spends in oak, and it is the expression that helped make Clase Azul a fixture on back bars around the world.

Tasting Notes

Reposado tequila in this style is smooth and rounded, with the time in oak layering soft notes of vanilla, caramel and gentle spice over cooked agave. It is polished and approachable, a sipping tequila meant to be savored slowly rather than rushed. The texture tends to be silky and the finish lingers gently, which is exactly what you want from a tequila built for an unhurried evening.

What to Pair It With

A tequila of this caliber shines neat or over a single large cube so the oak and agave can unfold. For food, the Sparrow dinner menu pairs it well with the Lamb Quesa-Birria Tacos, the Guajillo Chicken, or the Tuna Tartare. Our 21+ lounge with its quartzite bar is the perfect spot to enjoy it after dinner.
