Chartreuse (Yellow)

From Sparrow’s liqueur list, Yellow Chartreuse is the gentler, honeyed sibling of the famous green, a French herbal liqueur with deep monastic history ($20 by the pour, or $30 for a larger pour).

About Chartreuse (Yellow)

Like its green counterpart, Yellow Chartreuse is made by Carthusian monks and named for the Grande Chartreuse monastery in the mountains north of Grenoble, France. The order has produced Chartreuse since 1737, working from an old manuscript, and the recipe stays a closely guarded secret known to only a couple of monks at a time. The yellow expression is built from the same world of herbs, plants, and flowers as the green but lands softer and sweeter, with a warm golden color that comes naturally from its botanicals. It is the approachable end of a legendary range, perfect for anyone meeting Chartreuse for the first time here on the Eastside.

Tasting Notes

Yellow Chartreuse is rounder and mellower than the green, with honeyed sweetness, gentle spice, and soft herbal notes that glide into a smooth finish. It is herbal and complex but easy to love.
