From Sparrow’s gin list, Big Gin Barrel Reserve is the barrel-aged sibling of Seattle’s beloved Big Gin, a richer, rounder pour for sipping ($15 by the pour, or $22.50 for a larger pour).
About Big Gin Barrel Reserve
Big Gin was created by Captive Spirits in Seattle as a classic London Dry built on nine botanicals including juniper, coriander, bitter orange peel, grains of paradise, angelica, cassia, orris, cardamom, and Tasmanian pepperberry. The Barrel Reserve takes that same Seattle gin and rests it in barrels, which mellows the juniper and adds warmth, color, and a soft, oak-touched roundness. The result bridges the world between gin and whiskey, a barrel-aged style that has helped put Washington craft gin on the map.
Tasting Notes
Barrel aging softens Big Gin’s juniper-forward backbone into something rounder and warmer. Expect the familiar coriander, citrus, and gentle spice carried by a smooth, lightly oaky character, with a touch more body than the standard London Dry. It is a gin that rewards sipping slowly, neat or over a large cube.
What to Pair It With
A barrel-aged gin sips like a lighter whiskey. From the Sparrow dinner menu, enjoy it after dinner with the Truffle Deviled Eggs, alongside the American Wagyu steaks, or stirred into an Old Fashioned. It is a perfect after-dinner pour in our 21+ lounge, and our daily happy hour from 3 to 5 PM takes $3 off well drinks.
