From Sparrow’s agave list, Batanga Reposado is a smooth, oak-rested tequila with old-world roots, $12 by the pour, or $18 for a larger pour.
About Batanga Reposado
Batanga is made by Casa Orendain, a Jalisco family estate founded in 1926 and counted among the founding families of the modern tequila industry. The reposado is produced from 100% blue Weber agave grown in the Tequila Valley, slow-cooked in traditional brick ovens, naturally fermented, and double distilled in copper. It is then rested in American oak barrels, which is what makes it a reposado and gives it a softer, rounder profile than the blanco. The old-world process shows through in a tequila that feels both traditional and easy to enjoy. Reposado, meaning rested, sits between blanco and anejo, and even a few months in barrel is enough to take the edge off and add a layer of complexity.
Tasting Notes
The time in oak mellows the agave and layers in warmth. Look for cooked agave alongside notes of cinnamon and clove spice from the brick ovens, gentle vanilla and oak from the barrel, and a smooth, balanced finish. It is versatile enough to sip or to anchor a cocktail.
What to Pair It With
Reposado pairs naturally with savory, spiced dishes. From the Sparrow dinner menu, try it with the Guajillo Chicken, the Lamb Quesa-Birria Tacos, or the Tuna Tartare. It is also a great base for a Margarita or our Juanita-Rita, and a fine choice during the daily happy hour, 3 to 5 PM.
