Batanga Blanco

From Sparrow’s agave list, Batanga Blanco is a crisp, unaged tequila that puts the agave front and center, $11 by the pour, or $16.50 for a larger pour.

About Batanga Blanco

Batanga is crafted by Casa Orendain, a family estate founded in 1926 in Jalisco, Mexico and recognized as one of the founding families of the modern tequila industry. The blanco is made from 100% blue Weber agave using old-world methods passed down through generations. The piñas are slow-cooked in traditional masonry brick ovens, which coaxes out warming spice notes, then the tequila is double distilled in copper. As an unaged tequila, it goes to the bottle without time in oak, so what you taste is the pure character of the agave and the brick-oven cook. Blanco, sometimes called silver or plata, is the most transparent expression of a tequila, and it is where the distillery’s house style really shows.

Tasting Notes

This is a clean, lively blanco. Expect fresh cooked agave with hints of cinnamon and clove spice from the brick ovens, a touch of citrus brightness, and a crisp finish. It is exactly the kind of straightforward, agave-forward tequila that makes a great Margarita.

What to Pair It With

A bright blanco loves zesty, savory plates. From the Sparrow dinner menu, enjoy it with the Tuna Tartare, the Lamb Quesa-Birria Tacos, or the Guajillo Chicken. It is a go-to in a Margarita or our Juanita-Rita, and it fits right into the daily happy hour, 3 to 5 PM.
