From Sparrow’s rye list, High West Double Rye is a spice-driven blended rye built for cocktails and sipping alike, $14 by the pour, or $21 for a larger pour.
About High West Double Rye
High West was Utah’s first legal distillery since 1870, founded in 2006 by former biochemist David Perkins in Park City. The brand is known for the art of blending, and Double Rye is one of its signatures. As the menu notes, it is a blend of two different rye whiskeys, each with a minimum age of two years, brought together with an emphasis on spice character. Pairing two ryes lets the blend show both the bright, peppery snap of a younger whiskey and a rounder, more developed side, which is exactly what makes it such a dependable cocktail rye.
Tasting Notes
True to its name, this whiskey leads with rye spice, black pepper, baking spice, and a savory herbal edge, set against a touch of caramel sweetness and a clean, warming finish. It is bold without being harsh.
What to Pair It With
As the menu says, it is perfectly crafted for a classic Manhattan, or a rye-based cocktail like an Old Fashioned. You can also sip it neat or over a large cube alongside our American Wagyu steaks or the Sparrow-Smoked Rack. It is an easy pick during the daily happy hour from 3 to 5 PM, or as a nightcap in our 21+ lounge.
