About Four Rose’s Small Batch Select

Four Roses has been making bourbon in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky since 1888, and its approach is unique in the industry. The distillery uses two separate mash bills and five proprietary yeast strains to create ten distinct bourbon recipes, each aged on its own. For the Small Batch Select, the distillery’s master distiller mingles several of those recipes into one expression, building layers of flavor from grains and water drawn from the limestone-rich Salt River. It is non-chill filtered, which keeps more of the natural character in the glass. Four Roses spent years out of the U.S. market before a celebrated revival, and the Small Batch Select sits near the top of its core range, a showcase for the distillery’s signature recipe-mingling approach.

Tasting Notes

Mingling several recipes gives this bourbon real complexity. Expect ripe berry and stone fruit, soft baking spice like clove and nutmeg, vanilla, and a hint of mint and cinnamon on a long finish. It is rich and layered, and it drinks well straight up or over ice.
