David Hill Riesling

From Sparrow’s white wine list, the David Hill Riesling is an old-vine Oregon white from one of the Willamette Valley’s most historic estates ($65 by the bottle). It is a special bottle with real roots, and we are glad to share it here in Kirkland.

About David Hill Riesling

David Hill Vineyards and Winery sits on a hillside estate near Forest Grove in the northern Willamette Valley, on land first homesteaded back in 1883. The original farmhouse, built that same year, still holds the tasting room, and the property is listed on the Washington County Historical Register. What makes David Hill truly notable is the vines. Some of the oldest plantings in the entire Willamette Valley grow here, put in the ground in 1965 by Oregon wine pioneer Charles Coury, who planted Pinot Noir, Riesling, and other classic varieties that are still producing today. Those self-rooted old vines are more than fifty years old, and old vines tend to give wines with concentration, balance, and a quiet sense of place. For a Riesling lover, drinking from vines with this much history is part of the pleasure.

Tasting Notes

Cool-climate Willamette Valley Riesling is prized for its purity and balance. In general terms, expect bright orchard and citrus fruit, a floral lift, and the crisp, mouthwatering acidity that makes Riesling such a refreshing white. Oregon’s cool growing season helps the grape hold onto that lively freshness, so the wine stays clean and food-friendly from the first sip.

What to Pair It With

Riesling is one of the most versatile food whites there is, especially with bright and lightly spiced dishes. From the Sparrow dinner menu, try it with the Guajillo Chicken, the Fresh Oysters, or the Pacific Black Cod. It is also lovely with the Spring Arugula Salad and the Burrata Avocado.
