From Sparrow’s whiskey list, Buffalo Trace is a Kentucky bourbon classic and one of the easiest pours to love ($11 by the pour, or $16.50 for a larger pour).
About Buffalo Trace
Buffalo Trace comes from one of the oldest distilleries in America, the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, where whiskey has been made on the site for well over two centuries. The distillery is a National Historic Landmark and the name nods to the ancient buffalo trail that once crossed the Kentucky River nearby. The flagship bourbon is aged in new charred oak in the Kentucky style and has become a benchmark for approachable, everyday bourbon. The site was once known as the O.F.C. Distillery under Edmund H. Taylor Jr. and later passed to George T. Stagg, names that still appear on bottles from the same distillery today. As the menu notes, this expression is soft and smooth enough to be enjoyed neat or on the rocks.
Tasting Notes
This is an inviting, well-rounded bourbon. Look for gentle sweetness with notes of vanilla, caramel, and soft oak, an easy texture, and a smooth finish that makes it as good for sipping as it is in a cocktail.
What to Pair It With
Buffalo Trace shines neat, over a large cube, or as the backbone of an Old Fashioned or Manhattan. From the Sparrow dinner menu, it pairs beautifully with the American Wagyu steaks or the Truffle Deviled Eggs. Catch our daily happy hour from 3 to 5 PM, or settle into the 21+ lounge after dinner.
