From Sparrow’s liqueur list, Becherovka is a famous Czech herbal liqueur with lots of spice flavors, a warming digestif with real history behind it. It is $11 by the pour, or $16.50 for a larger pour.
About Becherovka
Becherovka comes from the spa town of Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) in the Czech Republic, where the Becher family began making it in the early 1800s. Josef Vitus Becher started experimenting with the recipe in the 1790s and began selling his bitter herbal liqueur in 1807, and his son Jan turned it into the brand known today. It is built on a secret recipe of more than twenty herbs and spices, and locals affectionately call it the thirteenth spring of Karlovy Vary, a nod to the town’s celebrated mineral springs. Traditionally it is enjoyed as a digestif to settle the stomach after a meal.
Tasting Notes
Lots of spice flavors define this one, warm baking-spice notes of cinnamon and clove woven through soft herbal sweetness, with a gently bitter, aromatic finish. It is comforting and complex, the kind of liqueur that warms you from the inside.
