About Angel’s Envy Rye

Angel’s Envy is the Louisville brand founded by master distiller Lincoln Henderson and his son Wes Henderson, known for taking a finished-whiskey approach to everything they release. This rye is built on a 95% rye and 5% malted barley mash and bottled at 100 proof. It is aged six years, then finished for up to 18 months in Caribbean rum casks, an unusually long finish that leans the spicy rye toward dessert-like sweetness. Along with the port-finished bourbon, this rum-finished rye has been a mainstay of the brand since its early days, and it remains one of the more distinctive ryes you will find on a list.

Tasting Notes

The long rum-cask finish amplifies maple, vanilla, and honeycomb notes over the backbone of the rye. The result is rich and smooth, with dark-sugar sweetness wrapped around the rye’s natural spice, drinkable and full even at 100 proof. It leans toward a dessert-like sweetness while keeping the rye’s character front and center, which is what makes it such an easy pour to enjoy.

What to Pair It With

Sip it neat or over a large cube to let the rum finish open up, or build it into a Manhattan. From the Sparrow dinner menu, it pairs well with our American Wagyu steaks, the Sparrow-Smoked Rack, or the Truffle Deviled Eggs. It is a perfect after-dinner pour in our 21+ lounge.
