Amrut Old Port

From Sparrow’s rum list, Amrut Old Port is a dark rum from Bangalore, India, a warm, sweetly spiced pour that drinks beautifully neat or over a cube ($11 by the pour, or $16.50 for a larger pour).

About Amrut Old Port

Amrut Old Port is made by Amrut Distilleries, the Bangalore house founded in 1948 that earned a global reputation for Indian single malt before its rums found a following. It is produced from native varieties of Indian sugar cane molasses and aged in a combination of ex-whiskey and new oak barrels. The hot Indian climate does much of the work here, hyper-aging the spirit far faster than a cool warehouse would, which is how a rum this rich comes together in the tropics. The result is a dark rum that tastes layered and mature.

Tasting Notes

Old Port leans into deep, dessert-like flavors: rich notes of brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, tobacco, and butterscotch. It is on the sweeter, rounder end of the dark rum spectrum, smooth enough to sip slowly while still carrying real warmth and a little oak-spice backbone.

What to Pair It With

This is an after-dinner kind of rum. Sip it neat or on a large cube in our 21+ lounge, or build it into an Old Fashioned. If you want food alongside it, the dessert-forward profile loves something rich from the Sparrow dinner menu, like the Sparrow-Smoked Rack or the Truffle Deviled Eggs. Our daily happy hour runs 3 to 5 PM with $3 off well drinks.
