From Sparrow’s white wine list, the Rombauer Sauvignon Blanc is a crowd-pleasing California white from one of Napa’s most beloved family wineries ($80 by the bottle). It is a fresh, sunny pour we are happy to have on the list here in Kirkland.
About Rombauer Sauvignon Blanc
Rombauer Vineyards was founded in 1980 by Koerner and Joan Rombauer, with German family roots that trace back to the Rheingau winegrowing region. Koerner’s great-aunt, Irma Rombauer, wrote the famous cookbook The Joy of Cooking, so this is a family that has long understood the pleasures of the table. The winery built its reputation on a rich, widely loved Chardonnay, and over the decades it has become one of California’s most recognized white-wine houses. Sauvignon Blanc is a more recent and very welcome chapter, only the second white grape in the winery’s history. This bottling comes from premium vineyards across Sonoma and Napa County, the kind of cool-influenced sites where Sauvignon Blanc keeps its bright, lively character. A small portion is aged in neutral French oak, a gentle touch that adds a little roundness and complexity without covering up the fresh fruit.
Tasting Notes
This is a classic, vibrant, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc. Expect an array of tropical fruit notes alongside that signature grassy, herbal lift, all framed by zippy acidity. The hint of neutral oak gives it a touch more texture and depth than a stainless-only style, so it feels generous while staying crisp and clean. It is the kind of white that wakes up the palate on a warm afternoon.
What to Pair It With
A bright Sauvignon Blanc like this loves fresh, briny, and green flavors. From the Sparrow dinner menu, pour it with our Fresh Oysters, the Tuna Tartare, Scallops and Prosciutto, or the Spring Arugula Salad. It is also a natural with the Wild Alaskan Halibut and the Pacific Black Cod. On a sunny day it is right at home out on our four-season patio.
